Spent alittle time working browsing the internet looking at wedding flowers... ahh the fun of planning someone elses wedding. Found some arrangements that I have fallen in love with... ohh and then there are the cakes...

there is something about a simple cake with a few flowers... Call me crazy but I think after looking at a ton of pictures today that if it were me... I would be choosing a ivory and orange wedding.... kinda crazy sounding but white calla lilys, tiger lilys, roses.... the orange thing seems happy and the ivory elegant...
Alias its not me... and until Ruth comes up with something better we are planning a yellow wedding..

Throw out the life vest

It seems the world is moving forward a whirlwind speeds and I am treading water to keep up. Mike was gone all weekend and I was obviously in slow mode because today I have the drowning feeling... It could be because Amanda deposited her whole house (don't even ask how it all fit in her car) into my living room.... or maybe because I feel pressure to have answers for David regarding his wedding and am at the mercy of others... or maybe its that I know we still have new carpet to get put in, mulching to do, a basement to get clean... And then theres the---Amanda is leaving in about 12 days to go to New Jersey... ohhh and Alaska is just around the corner (hmm 24 days!!)

I need more time... a bigger calendar and more time.... did I say that already?

And the good news keeps on coming....

This week has been incredible when it comes to good family news... David and Ruth announced they were getting married!!! And since they are coming from Amsterdam and London in June-- What better time to throw a wedding--- So exciting to see David take the plunge... We've all thrown ourselves into the planning-- I just hope we can pull off a dream wedding via email and phone--

And then Amanda went on an interview for an Internship
today and nailed it! She'll be spending her summer in New Jersey doing research for L'oreal. I couldn't be prouder of her-- Should be an exciting summer and the learning experience of a lifetime. My heart sunk when she called-- I miss her terribly and can't imagine her not being here-- the reality is I've been counting the days down til the end of this semester and I wasn't ready to hear the news that she wouldn't be here.
My head tells me this is an awesome challenge for her -- my heart just hasn't caught up yet.
Did I mention how totally excited her dad for her?? He never doubted for a moment that she'd be heading off to greater things--

So sorry for the delay in sharing the Nascar pictures from this weekend. Our time in Richmond never disappoints us! Saturday we got to the track early enough that Mike was able to pull off getting a spot up close at gate 6. Which meant less walking for him and easy access to the track. Christopher got a promotion at work (couldn't be prouder) and while he had purchased season tickets was unable to get the day off to go to the Busch race. But that didn't stop him from joining us for alittle tailgating. And then it was off to work for him. David stayed using Christophers extra ticket and Mike C and Chris G slide into the parking spot we "saved" for them. All and all it was a good day-- We saved ourselves the ride home by going to Mike C. lakehouse in Lake Anna. Which by the way is mighty cute.
Whle the weather disappointed us on Sunday the good times did not. I had to laugh that after we set up the tents for tailgating A bunch of Christophers buddies showed up ---without race tickets... they came for the tailgating! Beer in hand and an attitude of finding a good time. They weren't there long before they found more friends from school- nothing like a bunch of rowdy boys to get the day going... But what was remarkable in no time they had the entire road in front of our tailgate filled with games!! They played bucketball, some kind of ringer game and beer pong. And no they didn't bring a game with them... they made friends fast-- and the pre-race party began

Nothing like a day filled with family and friends. We were worried that Nick and Robin wouldn't find us. But low and behold they showed --rain and all...It didn't take much for Nick to join in the games-- Christopher loves showing off his cool nephew-- and while I thought it important to introduce him... it seems all the boys remembered each other anyway---
. I would be remiss if I didn't comment on the seats that Mike scored for the race.. If you look at the picture-- look at the seats all the way up at the top!! yup we could see the entire track! Unfortunately without the "handicap" stamp everyone had to walk to the top. Which was a trek-- Needless to say Mike and I rode the elevator. Sundays race ended early with a rained out. So Guess ? what we ended up with three days of festivities--Nascar was no longer a two day race it was an event!... this time we decided that Saturday was a bit much and we parked in the handicap lot and made the kids come to us. The sun shone bright... but the wind was a bit much--(ok it was a bit much for me-- no one else seemed to have an issue)
Like a duck out of water-- I embraced the whole Nascar scene-- after all if you can't beat 'em -- join'em----

Busch Race

Just a quick photo of yesterday-- Don't we look all grown up at the Richmond Bush race? Check out the new glasses!! Should be posting NASCAR race pictures but after hanging out in cold damp weather-- the race was called for rain after about 12 laps under caution... so its back to Richmond for us tomorrow---- Boogedy Boogedy boogedy---lets go racing boys!!!

Weekend recap

This picture cracks me up-- yes the boys are home from Talledga and from the stories it sound like they had fun. The had a "travel package" to go see the race. It included Race Tickets, Hotel room and bus transportation to and from the Sat and Sun. races... What it didn't include was tailgating-- I mean really its a bus... But you know Mike and its not a race if theres not tailgating involved... So Saturday the boys convinced the bus driver to bring a grill Sunday and they would bring the meat! yes that driver actually brought her grill and surprisingly some food too... and Mike and Mike apparently took a taxi to the grocery store Saturday night and bought up a whole bunch of local sausage. I only wish I could have seen the two of them in the grocery store... (although this type of shopping comes naturally to my hubby) only my husband would figure a way to spend race day HIS WAY!

(yes that is a cardboard cut out of Clint Bowyer... and I would guess heavily airbrushed... cause god knows he doesn't look that good in real life!)

Kitchen update

Just sharing a few photos of the kitchen-- After a long bumpy ride I think we came out with a mighty fine finished product. Mike had great vision to pick out the darker granite it really finishes off the kitchen nicely, and the oak cabinets turned out to be just fine with the floor. I finally found a new carpet and will be ordering that shortly from Sears. Totally loving the new sink... not only is it deep but its Wide as well... Can fit full size pans in there with no problem. And the smaller side works great for drying-- The sinks came with some cool wire racks which I wasn't really sure what to do with-- but they do work great as drying racks and also work great to rinse fruit and veggies!
We had started hanging our pots on the wall shortly before the fire, and we had talked about getting a real pot rack-- Mike picked this one out-- and although its probably too big for the size kitchen we have its grown on me. Certainly frees up alot of much needed cabinet space and is so handy to have all the pots and your fingertips.

Week done-

Another very long week....
Mike must have done alittle much last weekend as he ended up at the doctors by Tuesday-- After heating pads, hot tubs and a load of medication he is up and kicking again....
Christopher it seems got himself a nice promotion-- Congratulations to him!
Its A nascar weekend for Mike-- he and Mike C flew off to Talladega this morning-- hopefully they both come back in one peice
Amanda went to her first Toga party--- she's not sure how shes been in college 3 years and been Greek and has never been before???? For those who need to know she sewed herself into her costume-- see those sewing skills have paid off!
And me--- work and work and did I mention I went to work??? Looking forward to a weekend of peace and quiet-- lots of messy art and sleep---

Just call me Fred

Just call me Fred... Fred Flintstone that is... I moved all the rocks back onto the waterfall this weekend.. and boy can I feel it in every muscle in my body! But it was worth it! We spent this weekend working hard in the yard. The weather took a turn for the better and we took full advantage-- Plants got moved (some of them for the third time) back into the newly enlarged garden in front of the pond-- hostas got divided to fill in spots that seemed bare and bushes got moved to hopefully improve their growth.

And if that wasn't enough-- I couldn't be prouder of Mike--he's been working hard to remove all the Junk that he has collected behind the pond and next to the carport. The Sanford and Son look is gone. A couple of trips to the dump and alittle help from David and he's made real progress. I guess our next project will have to be the attic.

The boys also got all the cars washed-- something the cold weather has prevented us all from doing. And hey the horseshoe pit is back in business with new sand and cleaned up shoes--
I spoke to Amanda a few times this weekend. Corey drove down to keep her company-- The media has been asked to leave campus and she's glad they'll be gone when classes start Monday. The media has played such a big part in this whole tragedy-- Next week the students all have alot deal with and having the added pressure of outsiders just wouldn't be a good thing. Its now time for all of us to move on...

Hokie Message

As found on my daughters away message-- I think this says it all--

If you did not get a chance to watch the convocation yesterday it is worth taking a some time to watch it. The spirit of community helps one to understand why my daughter is at home there.

I cried as I listened to Nikki Giovanni's address and felt proud that this is the type of educator that VA TECH beleives in. And when the hokie cheer erupted-- I know some would think it was out of place at such a somber event but I knew that this was a community that would rebuild and survive the tragedy. Pulling together--ever forward defines the Hokies.

They filled not only the auditorium but the football field as well. Amanda told me that the cheer started outside and worked its way in.. These students are strong-- they are our future and they certainly didn't deserve this.

Say a prayer for a hokie....

In a time where astronauts can run Marathons on the moon, a time that we can drive hybrid electric cars and we can get our mail delivered to our cell phone But we can't stop senseless killing? I just don't understand

First off- thank you to everyone who called, emailed and prayed today-- Amanda is safe-- She actually had come home yesterday to pick up Madison and was headed back to school during the tragedy this morning.

That horrible feeling in my stomach came early this morning as the news reported the first student death-- and the day got worse each time I hit the refresh button the death toll rose. Something is so wrong when lives are lost for no reason-- when attending class, or sitting in your dorm room brings you terror. I keep thinking my child is safe -- and I feel horrible... what about those parents who don't know or worse yet-- do know... what about the shooters parent? surely they didn't raise their son to reign terror on fellow human beings.
And how do we address the concerns of 26000 students-- how do they find a safe haven when they are so far from home? Who can protect them from each other?



BLACKSBURG, Va. - A gunman killed 30 people in two shooting incidents Monday at a college in Virginia in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. The gunman also was killed, and at least 22 other people were injured.
“Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions,” said Charles Steger, president of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, in southwest Virginia. “The university is shocked and indeed horrified.”
President Bush said in a brief televised statement: “Schools should be places of sanctuary and safety and learning. ... Today, our nation grieves with those who have lost loved ones at Virginia Tech.”
The shootings spread panic and confusion at the college. Witnesses reporting students jumping out the windows of a classroom building to escape the gunfire, which rang out just four days before the eighth anniversary of the Columbine High School bloodbath near Littleton, Colo., when two teenagers killed 12 fellow students and a teacher before taking their own lives.
Federal law enforcement officials told NBC News that the gunman was dead after he shot more than 50 people at two locations on campus. Thirty-one, including the gunman, were confirmed dead.
At least 22 others were being treated at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg and Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem, the hospitals said. Six of the victims were in surgery, and five were reported in stable condition. The conditions of the 17 others were not immediately reported.
The name of the gunman was not released. Witnesses described him as a man in his 20s, wearing a maroon cap and a black leather jacket. A spokesman for the FBI in Washington said there was no immediate evidence to suggest it was a terrorist attack, “but all avenues will be explored.”
Silent gunman ‘just started shooting’The man did not appear to be shooting at random, NBC News’ Pete Williams reported, quoting federal law enforcement officials. He seemed to have specifically targeted the two locations, a coeducational dormitory and an engineering classroom across campus.
Law enforcement officials said the gunman carried two weapons, a 9-mm pistol and a 22-caliber handgun, Williams reported. They said gunman chained the doors of the classroom building so his potential victims could not escape and police could not enter.
A student in the engineering class describe an “unreal” scene with “blood pretty much everywhere.”
“None of us thought it could have been gunshots,” the student, who identified himself as Trey Perkins, told MSNBC’s Chris Jansing in a telephone interview. “... I’m not sure how long it lasted. It seemed like a really long time.”Perkins said the gunman never said a word. “He didn’t say, ‘Get down.’ He didn’t say anything.” He just started shooting.”
The gunman left the classroom and then tried to return, but students kept him out by bracing the door closed with their feet. “He started to try to come in again and started shooting through the door,” Perkins said, but hit no one.
“I got on the ground and I was just thinking, like, there’s no way I’m going to survive this,” Perkins said. “All I could keep thinking of was my mom.”

I am sure over the next few days there will be alot of information put out about this hokie tragedy-- I know I have so many unanswered questions... how do you wake up angry enough to do this? What type of person thinks a gun resolves anything? Why do we need the right to bear arms if this is what comes of having this right? how do you move forward from this?

Say alittle hokie prayer-- I have a feeling they are gonna need it.

Here fishy fishy

After a week in the water garden the fish are finally back in their pond. At this time neither has clear water but we are hoping for the best. Mike spent most of the day putting the slate back around the pond and onto the waterfall. Not my kind of day for outdoor activities--it rained on and off and its just plain cold out there. He even got his new biological filter installed. We are hoping the addition of another filter will cut down on the work involved with keeping the fish happy. I keep thinking that one of these days I can get out in the garden and plant some new plants around the pond to replace the ones that mysteriously disappeared during his little project... but the weather outlook doesn't look too promising.

Friday the 13th??

My luck must be changing because I got up early today to go to traffic court and made it there on time! amazing for me to be anywhere on time... but the good news is all is well.... I got pulled over about a month ago for having dead tags... How does this happen? Well the vette was wintering in the garage and I guess when the registration came I filed it away to be dealt with on another day-- unfortunately that day didn't come. I wouldn't have driven the car that day-- but Corey was moving and needed the Jimmy-- And so I hopped in the car not knowing---
The poor Police officer-- I told him there was no way I didn't get the new stickers... they HAD to be on my desk at home--very indignant I was!-- I just hadn't driven the car in months.... IMAGINE my surprise when I got home to find I had just filed it away!!
Fast forward to today-- I filed my way into the Warrenton court house-- OMG a place of beauty-- ofcourse the scrapbooker in me MADE me pull out my camera--Yup I took a picture of the court room... its old and majestic and full of history.
Then the prosocuter meandered down the list of names.. called me up asked for the registration and said-- ok charges dropped...I smile-- ok it was a GRIN-- and ask don't you wanna hear my story?-- he laughs and says not today and I say but its a good one...he tells me to take this little peice of notebook paper that he has torn from a notebook downstairs so they can notate the dismal.
GoodNews?? I saw the police officer who pulled me over... he recognized me-- asked if I got my vette fixed-- I apoligized-- told HIM my whole story-- apoligized for lying to him even though I didn't think I was at the time... he laughed and told me everyone lies to him! Not bad for a Friday the 13th huh?

Moral of the story: Don't listen to everyone who says its not worth your time to go to court just pay it and get it over... It cost me an hour of my day-- I got to apologize to a nice officer-- and I didn't have to pay a dime!

Easter came and went

Sadly I have no pictures of children scampering around to find easter eggs, nor do I have pictures of the easter bunny... Easter kinda of came and went without alot a lot of fanfair. The kids came home for the weekend, they did alittle pre easter celebrating with their friends, we all went to Jackies for dinner and then it was back to work and school yesterday.

I do have water again in the kitchen which in itself is enough for me to do the happy dance-- The countertop guy came and did a partial install just so I could have a sink again. Mike did the plumbing himself-- a task he lothes-- after alot of huffing and puffing, a few obsenities and alot of whining he realized that while we had water the whole drain thing was wrong.... the sink and garbage disposal are too low for the water to properly drain... so next weekend he will tear out the wall and do something to make the water flow down hill vs being pushed up and over. Me? I know I have something important to do so that I won't be there to witness him fighting with the plumbing..

Last night I realized I needed to get back to working on the Alaska trip... only 57 days and I still have a hotel reservation to make and 2 tours to firm up.... Time flies when your having fun????

Nothing says spring like alittle snow

Nothing like waking up to snow, as if my plants haven't experienced enough trauma this week. Since the kitchen wasn't quite a full time job, we decided it was time to remove the pond liner, make the pond another two feet deeper on the far side and add a skimmer. Someone needs to send us on a vacation or commit us to the funny farm. So all that pond work meant that my poor plants all had to be temporarily moved to safer ground. Did they all get saved? no of course not... I tried but no matter where Mike says he'll be tromping it seems to can't help himself to sit on, lay equipment on or dig in other areas that my plants are laying dormant waiting for spring to come...

Right now I am waiting patiently for the countertop guy... we could actually end up with water in the kitchen today. Now as much as I have enjoyed brushing my teeth and washing pots and pans at the same time I think I can safely say I am ready to embrace dishwasher usage again. Maybe with water in the kitchen the animals won't have to resort to eating snow!!

So I spent alittle to much time surfing the web today while I should have been doing some productive work... and yes I already know I will pay for getting sucked in when the deadlines hit and I am behind....

But seriously this was a good find today-- Keri Smith is coming out with a new book.. Wreck this journal The creative side does need time to come out and play... and messy play is always good play right?
I've tried my had at creative journals before, Stacy Jullians class at Big Picture Scrapbooking was an instant failure for me. But somehow I like the idea.. just can't seem to commit to the process. Could be that there are too few minutes in the day to lead both a creative and a productive life???

Another amazing but true story

One would think that if you were in the business of selling and installing kitchen cabinets you could actually complete the job. Especially in a kitchen that is my size. Amazing but true story:

The cabinet guy measured our wall and somehow measured wrong. Therefore the three inches that he measured wrong translated into him ordering a 2 12 inch cabinets instead of 2 15 inch cabinets... Three inches may not seem like much but again in a kitchen my size that is alot.... And to top it off the bottom cabinet he ordered is a bank of drawers.. drawers like the ones in Amandas kitchen... Worthless so small that putting two spatulas in them fills them up. Never did I ask for a bank of drawers.

Then if that is not enough... The sink wall cabinets are 8 1/2 inches short... even though he did measure correctly and on the plans it reads correctly... The last cabinet should be 39 inches.. somehow I go a 33 inch base.

I know you are thinking oh they made a mistake they are sorry and they will quickly remedy this... HA!
1) Cabinet guy: Alot of people like that bank of drawers
2) Cabinet guy: They don't make a larger base cabinet (liar)
3) Cabinet guy: It would be hard to reach into that base cabinet if it were bigger
4) Cabinet guy: Well we could customize it... it would only cost YOU $200.

5) Me: If you don't resolve this by Tuesday you can remove all the cabinets.

Did I mention that we have no water in the kitchen... and I totally have fallen in love with:
1) eating off of paper plates
2) Washing dishes by hand
3) Washing dishes in the BATHROOM

On other fronts:
The countertop guy arrived as scheduled to measure for the countertop that we can't put in now because the cabinet guy is an idot. Oh... and the countertop guy could have had my counters in on WEDNESDAY... which means I could have had water on Wednesday... and even though his english is well... nonexistant he assures me that he will be in and out of my kitchen in one hour. Yes folks ONE HOUR!

And amazingly I lost the bet with Mike on who would arrive first the painter or the countertop guy... seeing as our painters seem to be on the sleep in til you have bed sores time schedule... Yea Vern arrived at 9am... although his first words to us were "I gotta be in my driveway no later than 2pm today"... so much for finishing...
Guess we get to see him again... Funny when he left he mentioned he would be back today... but I am not holding my breath.

Being alittle angry does have its perks... I raked and raked and raked the back gardens... Mike and I moved a crape myrtle tree from by the garage to by the deck and I moved about a dozen tall phlox plants... then we moved landscaping bricks to enlarge the garden by the pond because we can't seem to cut the grass on the hill....

Echos in the kitchen

Its amazing the amount of stuff that kitchen cabinets hold. And when you have it spread out on your dining room table, boxed up in the living room and stashed everywhere in between it looks like even more. Is all of this necessary to cook? and does it make your meals taste better? Probably not--
As I emptied the cabinets I didn't even bother sorting it or purging--Like most tasks-- I know just because it came out doesn't mean it will fit back in-- at that point I will make some harsh decisions and decide the Jello Jigggler easter egg mold that hasn't been used since Amanda was in elementary school can be disposed of. Until then It can stare at me from a box in the living room.
Its been a long process recovering from the smoke and fire damage. Finally Thursday they removed the cabinets.Over a month since we began this odyssey. Kinda sad looking without anything in there. And Corey's comment summed it up-- "is it possible your kitchen looks smaller with nothing it in?" Funny it does-- Which makes you realize all those decorating magazines and shows are right when they talk about color and size-- The cabinets on the wall give the room height and even in a small space larger pieces can make a room feel larger... I am still struggling with deciding on a color for the room... Light green seems like a logical choice since I have so much of it in the adjoining rooms. But is green a good food color? Light green certainly isn't a happy color--- And I am all about happy colors , heck I searched for months for a happy couch for the family room... (don't ask how an eggplant couch fit that criteria) Hmm is light green going to make me hungry? will it make my lackluster cooking taste better? Why is color such a hard choice?

Amanda is once again doing the MS walk-- Unlike many others who volunteer for worthy causes she doesn't do it because its a nice thing to do, or because she wants to be helpful-- For my daughter this is purely selfish.. she wants to find a cure for her father.

Like her I want to see a cure for Multiple Sclerosis-- and I know with all the research that is out there that the cure is coming and its coming soon... As with most good things it does take money. I would like to think that the one dollar needed to fund the cure came from us... one of us who wanted to help Mike.

Looking like home again

Its starting to look like home again. This weekend we made a big push to get the house back in working order... a few hours in the basement, a hammer and nails to hang pictures and 2 trips to the dump and I think we can resume normal life. (that is until my kitchen cabinets arrive and then there will be chaos again)

We did accomplish alot for one weekend:

• Visited a carpet wholesaler to pick out carpet... I think we have narrowed it down. 2 samples are being mailed to us
• Mike picked up the new stove and the microwave that will hang over it (a first for us)
• Kitchen floor got mopped
• Iron Railing got painted
• Pictures are hung in the family room
• Wine cooler got moved downstairs
• Desk in the family room is now in the basement waiting for a rebirth in someone elses home
• Books that I decided to get rid of are in my car so I can take them to the used book store
• Took 2 huge bags of "stuff" off the basement shelves-- off to the dump with them
• Grass seed put down and yard fertilized
• Laundry Done (not put away as of this moment)
• All the glass removed from the collage picture frames, cleaned, pictures retaped and ready to be put on the wall (on a night when creativity returns to my body)

And we managed to watch some of the March madness and yesterdays Busch race in Bristol...

What more could one want out of a weekend? Next week... gotta turn in my final payment for the ALASKA 25/50 cruise-- alittle over 2 months to go! Still have some planning to do.. and shopping ofcourse!

And then of course I am still mulling over choices for the kitchen wall color and new lights....and I need to find curtains for the family room....

Funny of the weekend: Christopher came home... surprise visit... He was a big help in hauling stuff out of the house-- BIG THANKYOU! but as we hauled stuff out... he was hauling stuff in!! HAHA-- a few boxes.... kitchen stuff he said... and then I saw the box of hats that I thought went to the dump.... oh well some things are just not meant to leave....

random thoughts

Exactly what is the deal with gas prices? Monday I drive down Main Street and everyone has the same price –The going price??…. $2.39—The next morning on my way up Main street I can’t help but wonder what happened overnight—Gas has suddenly risen to $2.46… now I have this new method of staying ahead of the high rising gas prices… I only run down my tank to the half way point which means I put about 10 gallons – that way I never have to fill up on a high price day… but seriously 7 cents overnight is ridiculous. That’s an additional 70 cents just for gas--- By all means I know I squander away much more than that on chocolate bars and McSausage breakfasts but that’s still my choice right?…
So Wednesday as I cruise past the gas stations… guess what?? They are all back to $2.39???? Are the gas stations owners having fun changing the signs? Is someone in a turban somewhere laughing watching the silly Americans climb up and down the ladders to hike up the prices??? And again I ask what happened overnight that made everyone go back down????

While trying to get order in my life, I was putting away laundry and making my bed--minding my own business and before I knew I was cleaning out the jewelry box. Ahh the jewels I found! I think one could say my Jewels fit #2 on the list of definitions... While not worth alot of money--the Gems I have stored away are highly prized possessions that are a walk down memory lane... My PTA president pin, my world cup soccer pin, my highly ornate necklaces Amanda bought for me at the Christmas stores while in elementary school, the Cubscout pins, the earrings that lost their mates many years ago... all stored lovingly, collecting dust in various jewelry boxes. Yes I have stuffed these jewels in cigar boxes, hand painted Popsicle boxes, dresser drawers and even my jewelry box.
Today I am one Foodlion bag lighter.... Score one for me-- Less is more.

Just alittle rambling... My Top 5 reasons why Doing it Yourself is better then hiring a contractor

1) You always show up to your own project
2) You would never just lay cables around the wall to connect the TV to Dishnetwork
3) You realize that life is short and you can paint a room in a day
4) You stay til the job is finished
5) You can change your mind without inconveniencing anyone...

We (ok So Mike) finished painting the family room this weekend.. It looks really good. Now we have to move the furniture back and hang pictures etc.
The painters never showed up yesterday to finish the upstairs. And yes I was mad enough yesterday that I moved the furniture back and started putting the living room back together. Seems to me they can move it all when they finally arrive. I just couldn't see going another week living like this.

Mike also took time out yesterday to rewire the basement so the cables are all hidden behind the walls and ceiling that Dishnetwork and laid against the baseboard. He also hooked up our phone downstairs.... for some reason its been a cord coming out of the wall for years with no jack... don't ask... never seemed important...

Oh and we had to call the ductcleaners to come back out... Mike has been complaining about the dust in the house for a week now.. Well he went and looked at the filter-- which they changed when they cleaned the ducts 2 weeks ago... IT IS BLACK!! kinda amazing since usually we only change the filters every 3-4 months and it never looks BLACK. Seems they didn't do the stellar job they thought they did....

Thought of the day

Just a thought for the day.... seems to fit alot of circumstances... Its snowing again.... just when we though winter was over....
the state of my house and its painting projects....
oh well.... ponder the thought...

Just Tired

Being Tired is becoming part of my daily mantra....it seems that trying to catch up on sleep is just not doable unless you have a full day of sleeping in.... Sunday night Amanda's Midnight flight got delayed and delayed and delayed until it became a 4AM arrival... which meant from 3am-5am I made the trek to the airport and back to pick her and Corey up..... And now its Wednesday and I am still fighting lack of sleep- Despite the last few nights of eary bedtimes and doing absoulutly nothing when I got home from work I am still TIRED.

The painters are still not done--- and adding to my malise is having the house torn apart for yet another week. Finally on Monday we told them that they would have to come back Saturday as we were done taking time off of work-- So the plan is they will finish the orange walls on Saturday and be done with painting until the cabinets go in the kitchen.
Meanwhile down in the family room.... The insurance company paid for the ceiling to be painted and the walls wiped down...The ceiling looks great!! (I guess after 18 years of not being painted it would have to!!) But Mike and I both agreed it was a shame to have that newly painted ceiling in Bright White and not have walls to match so guess what we did started Sunday??? Yup we got two of the walls done-- Behr paint Havana Cream is the color. It has a nice warm yellow tint to it-- although it may require the purchase of new curtains...

Did I mention we had snow again???

Yes indeed-- winter is not over... had alittle snow this week... at first Madison decided that piddling on the deck fulfilled her obiligation of "going outside" but with alittle coaxing and a tennis ball she got into the swing of things...

Its alittle like ground hog day

I swear I have lived this day already.... once again there are tarps and plastic covering a fair amount of the house... and really my bedroom and the bathrooms are the only rooms of refuge!
The painting has begun and what a smell!! They have to seal the walls with the stinkiest paint known to man... so bad that it is really slow going as the painters can't stand to work in the room for very long while applying it.. We have to shuttle the dogs outside in fear of brain damage and to just catch some fresh air ourselves.
With all the painting and such comes alot of decisions too... yes I thought I made the choice on the countertops.. but that has changed. We found a better counter at a better price. Now we will have granite... pretty swanky for our small kitchen but it actually will fit better in the budget. Next up comes a new sink and faucets-- We have picked out one that looks similar to this one The faucet is a harder choice as I really like the one I have... but there are some new very stylish models out there-- What I want is style with a built in sprayer and a matching soap dispenser with an arc that will work with both sinks...too much to ask for??

So the cabinets are ordered and so are the countertops... We went with corian... it exceeded our budget but I think it will look nice. (Fingers are crossed) The Stilestone was one of my choices and Toni gave it great reviews but the checkbook said otherwise.. Now we wait 3 weeks for the fun to begin.

Since I was spending money I didn't have I also ordered a photo storage box from Croppin Companion.. and I must say It was well worth the twenty bucks. Sturdy, looks nice and is functional.. And the best part it comes with dividers that come out incase I decide not to use it for the pictures.

In true fashion Amandas passport finally arrived today... just in time for her to head off to Mexico on Sunday... Nothing like stressing out over what to do if it didn't arrive in time. But her in Mexico means my little friend will be coming to visit!!! Nothing says spring break like having a puppy to curl up with.

While the snow is melting away nicely with our 40 degree days it was just a few days ago that Christopher woke up to his first snow of the season... seems Richmond does not participate in all the weather we do... As promised here is a picture of his BRAND NEW TRUCK-- Not bad huh?
